Abandoned Innes Bridge

OTTAWA, ONTARIO

INFORMATION

The following historical information came from a local named Mathieu.

"This bridge was never in fact used for rail trackage. In fact, the farmer who owned the land and large farm (he had several farm buildings) put it across the creek sometime in the late 70s or 80s to get his tractors, harvesters and other heavy machinery across the creek to work on his land on the other side, saving him an enormous detour across the creek via Innes Rd. This would have in fact cut his distance from a mile or more to a couple of hundred meters. His cattle was also then able to get across Greens Creek to the pastures on the other side (I have memories of seeing cows on this bridge after it was installed). I can confirm, after researching, that there was never any trackage in the area, only the CPR M&O to the south (until 1986) and the CNOR Hawkesbury branch quite some way further to the north (until 1939)."
