The Bristol Mine is located near the town of Shawville. The mine was active on two separate occasions before closing its operation due to the lack of ore. The iron mine of Bristol was in operation from 1873 to 1894 and was one of the main mines used for iron in Canada at the time. It exported its iron across the world to places like Belgium, England, and Pennsylvania. The operation closed down in 1894 and became active years later under a new name "The Hilton Mine". The Hilton Mine was active from 1956 to 1977.
