Location Of ALL CAVES AND MINES
Here you will find an assortment of caves, karsts and abandoned mines located near and surrounding the National Capital Region.
Please note, no one should attempt to explore an abandoned mine as there are many dangers, such as cave-ins, poor air quality, and hidden shafts.
KARST
Karst is a topography formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves. It has also been documented for more weathering-resistant rocks, such as quartzite, given the right conditions
CAVE
A cave or cavern is a natural void in the ground, specifically a space large enough for a human to enter. Caves often form by the weathering of rock and often extend deep underground
ABANDONNED MINE
An abandoned mine is a mine or quarry which is no longer producing or operational. An abandoned mine may be a hazard to health, safety or environment.
