This mine is one of several abandoned mines located in Gatineau Park. The mine was owned by J.H. Wallingford and operated from 1899 to 1952 and was slowly flooded over the years. Tailings litter the forest with shinning Mica and quartz. Mica, feldspar and apatite were the main minerals that were mined at this location. Gatineau Park has posted warning throughout the forest notifying hikers of open pits.
We found old bottles and metal artifacts throughout the forest near the mine. Near one of the flooded pits we saw a baby black bear 50 feet away near a ravine. The mother was nowhere in sight, at that moment we decided to pack up and leave. This site was a nice walk through swamps, lakes and ravines but beware of your surroundings. Location ID #CM0023
