The Saint-Léonard Cave is located in a small suburban area park in Montréal. The cave was first discovered in 1812 by a local farmer who owned the land. During the rebellion of 1837 the cave was used to store ammunition and weapons. Even soldiers used the cave as a hiding place. The cave was forgotten for 112 years until a news article from Journal La Patrie was published in 1949. Since its resurrection people have been visiting in groups which sparked the city to deem the cave a Hazard. From 1968 to 1978 the cave was closed and sealed of from the public. From 1978 until today the cave was reopened by the Quebec Speleology Society for future studies. The Quebec Speleology Society offers tours during the summer season. The cave is 50 meters long and dips approximately 5 meters down.
