ABOUT US:
Capital Gems.ca operates in the Ottawa region of Ontario, Canada. This site was created in 2013 by individuals born and raised in Ottawa who humbly set out on a journey to discover the region’s caves, mines, and abandoned places. At the onset of this expedition we found there was a significant gap in this area of exploration in both the online and literary communities. After spending considerable time examining records, maps, forests formations, books, and online resources we found that the region had an exponential amount of places of both natural and historical interest. As luck would have it, our further passion for photography allowed us to document each of our visits and share them with others. Over time, we have recruited others to join us on this journey and Capital Gems is now comprised of ten people and growing, each of them adding their own unique interests and locations. As we grow we have reached out to involve our readers by offering a submit location page so that others can also share their own ideas. We operate mostly during the summer season and new locations are added through out the year depending on our site leads and weather. All photos and videos found on this site are the property of Capital Gems. We have no association/links to any government organization provincially or federally within Canada or abroad. OUR GOAL: Our goal is to explore, discover, and share the beauty and history that lies within and surrounding Canada's National Capital Region for everyone to see and experience from mines and caves to ruins and abandoned places.
