Laurentine Mine

GATINEAU PARK, QUÉBEC
BACK

Picture

INFORMATION

This mine is one of several abandoned mines located in Gatineau Park. The mine was owned by Laurentide Mica Co. and operated from 1908 to 1910 and was slowly flooded over the decades. Large Tailing piles litter the forest with shinning Mica. Mica and apatite were the main minerals that were mined at this location.  Gatineau Park has posted warning and fences throughout the forest notifying hikers of open pits.

No artifacts here found at this location. We noticed an old stone walkway that leads from the current road to the mine. Stones are lined up in a row defining the path ahead.

This site is easily accessible and only a couple of minutes from the road.

Location ID #CM0022
